SUCCESSFUL. These people have maintained a
30-pound (or more) weight loss for at least a year, and some as
long as six years. Those who ate breakfast are more apt to have a
successful go at dieting, and with the New Year (and those pesky
resolutions) right around the corner, we wanted to take a minute
and remind you just how important breakfast is.
You've heard the common phrase, "break the fast," right? That's
what breakfast does - it breaks the fast from overnight and is a
time the body needs to be refueled. The body actually needs to be
refueled a few times a day to ensure you are getting enough vital
nutrients as well as not over-eating in lieu of missing important
meals like breakfast. Eating breakfast keep your metabolism running
and keeps your body from going into "starvation" mode (or at least
think it's going into starvation mode). If you're like me, there's
probably been a time where you waited so long to eat and were SO
hungry, you'd pull into just about any drive-thru and order
thousands of calories worth of food, right? That is bad! And that's
what happens when you skip meals like breakfast.
And no, coffee as your breakfast doesn't count!
Breakfast should be full of protein and high in fiber. Things like
low fat meats, eggs, nuts, dairy products, fruits and vegetables,
yogurt, whole grains and fresh fruit juice are all good things to
stock your refrigerator with. Something as simple as a hard boiled
egg or apple and piece of whole grain toast can really help get
your metabolism going for the day and keep you focused at work or
